It's the new year and I've been hearing people beat themselves up for their food choices and weight.
I just want to remind my friends in eating disorder recovery, or those who want to avoid disordered eating, that your mental health is infinitely more important than any eating choice or number on the scale.
When you judge yourself harshly, it takes a toll on your mental well-being. And if you do it a lot, it can lock your nervous system into the stress response which contributes to disordered eating and body image struggles.
So please, remember that nobody is a perfect eater and nobody has a perfect body. We're all just beautiful, imperfect humans. Please take care of your mental health and eating patterns by being patient and kind to yourself at the table and at the mirror.
