In her book The Beauty Myth, Naomi Wolfe writes, “A culture fixated on female thinness is not an obsession about female beauty, but an obsession about female obedience. Dieting is the most potent political sedative in women’s history; a quietly mad population is a tractable one.”
In my opinion, Naomi is right-on-the-money! Let's be honest: the crushing pressure on females to control their bodies and appetites is not about beauty, but about control and obedience. Diet culture has been a sneaky tool to silence women and limit their power.
When your energy is consumed by an endless pursuit for physical perfection and your mind is deprived through constant dieting, it depletes the potential that could have been directed towards seeking the presidency, healing the coral reefs, or just relaxing and watching more sunsets.
But hey, we don't have to obey. We can break free, embrace our true selves, and challenge those confining narratives.
No more quietly starving and going mad. It's time to sassily reclaim our power! 💪✨
